Finnish Hawk fighter suffers birdstrike

June 26, 2009

A Finnish Air Force BAe Hawk jet suffered a birdstrike in Kauhava in western Finland on Friday, with the pilot landing the aircraft without incident.

Lieutenant-Colonel Kari Partinen, the commander of the Hawk squadron at the Training Air Wing in Kauhava, said the bird had hit the aeroplane’s nose cone.

On Thursday, two Valmet L-70 Vinka basic trainers collided while airborne near Tikkakoski, home to the Air Force Academy. Both aircraft landed safely.
