Bird Strike to China Eastern A321 near Shanghai on Apr 2nd 2009

April 2, 2009

A China Eastern Airbus A321-200, flight MU-5607 from Shanghai to Shenyang (China) with 140 passengers, was about 10 minutes into the flight, when a bird struck the left (captain’s side) windshield cracking the outer layers so that the glass turned basically opaque. The crew declared emergency and returned to Shanghai’s Pu Dong Airport, where the airplane landed safely about 20 minutes after takeoff.

A replacement aircraft reached Shenyang with a delay of approximately 2 hours.
