A TAP Air Portugal Airbus A330-200, registration CS-TOJ performing flight TP-125 from Porto (Portugal) to Caracas (Venezuela) with 205 passengers, flew through a flock of birds while climbing out of Porto. The crew decided to return to Porto as a precaution, where the airplane landed safely.
A post flight inspection revealed multiple bird strikes resulting in damage requiring a replacement aircraft. The passengers have been booked into hotels.
A replacement Airbus A330-200 registration CS-TOO has been dispatched from Lisbon and is now scheduled to depart Sunday (Jul 12th) at 5am local (03:00Z).
CS-TOJ has been ferried to Lisbon for repairs.
